OVERVIEW
ElCare is a mobile app that aims to provide efficient and reliable caregiver services for the elderly. By leveraging technology, the app streamlines the process of finding and hiring caregivers while maintaining a strong focus on personalized care and user convenience. ElCare strives to enhance the lives of seniors by providing a trusted platform for quality caregiving services.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Taking responsibility for the end-to-end research and design processes
APPLICATION

PROBLEM
The aging population is indeed a significant demographic trend in many countries, including the United States and several European nations. As people live longer, the demand for eldercare services, including healthcare, assistance with daily activities, and social support, is expected to increase.
Situation
1. Workforce shortage: The demand for eldercare services may outpace the supply of trained caregivers and healthcare professionals
2. Cost of care: The high costs associated with eldercare can pose financial burdens for families and individuals.
3. Infrastructure and accessibility: There may be a lack of appropriate infrastructure and accessible facilities to cater to the needs of senior citizens. This can include healthcare facilities, transportation services, and community support systems.
4. Lonely and stress: Family members often provide a low interaction with elders, which affects the health and emotion of the elders.
Solution
Although only qualified nurses are capable of providing medical assistance, most other enthusiastic young individuals can lend a hand with tasks such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, and more.
This significantly enhances the likelihood of easily discovering dependable and competent caregivers.
Inspired by this, I aim to develop a comparable solution that links students seeking part-time employment with elderly individuals in search of caregivers.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Elders (60-80 years old) who look for non-medical assists,
and College Students who look for part time job
DISCOVERY
Research
To gain insight into the needs of the elderly, I conducted interviews via phone calls with older members of my family and friends. While it is important to acknowledge that this sample may not encompass the entire elderly population, as some participants reside in nursing homes or have personal caregivers, these interviews were carried out with the intention of understanding their specific requirements.
Results
Elders’ Major Issues
“I’m not sure or even know where to find a caregiver.”
“I like to talk to people, especially young people to share my stories with them”
“I miss my grandchildren”
“I need someone to walk my dogs when my legs are hurt”
“I need someone to do evening walk with me”
Elders’ experience using application

“It’s hard for me to read and type in small text”
“Too many complication steps and processes to be done”
“I don’t want my personal information shown too much in the app”
“Some buttons are too small, I might tap on wrong one”
Competition
A competitive analysis was conducted in order to gain insights into the prevailing industry trends
and identify areas of potential growth and untapped opportunities.
CONCEPT DECISION
The research uncovered numerous challenges in the user interface that cannot all be addressed. Consequently, I made the decision to concentrate specifically on the phone version
of the user interface for the elderly.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, my personal UX design project has been a valuable learning experience that has allowed me to apply my knowledge and skills in a practical setting. Through this project, I have gained a deeper understanding of the importance of user-centered design and the iterative nature of the UX design process. I have also learned the significance of conducting thorough research, prototyping, and user testing to create meaningful and intuitive experiences for users.
Learning
Throughout this UX design project, I have learned several key lessons. Firstly, effective communication with users is vital to gain insights and align design decisions with user needs. Additionally, incorporating user feedback early and often is crucial in creating successful user experiences. Furthermore, I have learned to approach design challenges with an open mind, embracing the iterative process and being willing to pivot and make adjustments based on user insights.
Moving forward
there are several areas that I will focus on to further improve my UX design skills. I plan to deepen my understanding of usability testing methodologies and incorporate more robust user research techniques into my design process. Additionally, I will continue to expand my knowledge of emerging design trends and technologies to stay up-to-date in the rapidly evolving field of UX design. Overall, this project has provided a strong foundation for my future endeavors in UX design, and I am excited to continue learning and growing in this field.
